Sahar Tabar made news when she tried to look like Angelina Jolie by getting many plastic surgeries. She had liposuction and had her nose reshaped, which caused a lot of discussion and controversy online, earning her the nickname “Iran’s Zombie Angelina Jolie.”

Tabar’s big change in look wasn’t just cosmetic; it had bad effects as well. She got 10 years in jail for posting “blasphemous” pictures on Instagram and for other crimes like buying property illegally, encouraging violence, and having a bad effect on young people.

When the young woman was caught in October 2019 and sent to Qarchak Prison, which is known for being one of the worst prisons for women in Iran, her life took a dramatic turn. The fact that her daughter Tabar was in jail broke her heart, and an Iranian activist named Masih Alinejad heard her cries for help.

Alinejad used social media to bring attention to Tabar’s case and asked Angelina Jolie to step in and help free the young woman. After 14 months in jail, Tabar was finally freed.

Tabar’s story makes us think about how social media affects our lives, what happens when we try to find fame and approval online, and how hard life really is in Iran. As the young woman starts to rebuild her life after what happened, her story shows how dangerous addiction can be and how important it is to live your true self.
