So many are just children who enjoy bath time, a precious ceremony full of smashing, laughing, and toying with beloved toys. But a mother from Illinois, Eden Strong, is sounding the alarm about what appears to be an innocuous bath toy that may threaten a child’s vision. Everything she writes is a warning to parents in every part of the world.
Baylor, Eden’s two-year-old son was taking a normal bath when his eye began to give him trouble. Initially, she thought that it was only water in his eye, but after twelve hours, his very health quickened its downfall. With a diagnosed cellulitis, an infection of a potentially dangerous bacterial type of skin infection, Baylor’s eye became tremendously infected and protruded out of his face. Suffering a high temperature, he was urgently running him to a great hospital, hoping that he won’t loose his eye and Eden’s worst fears were confirmed.
The Recovery and Diagnosis
A medical haze of treatments and questions populated the following week. Baylor’s infection affected both eyes and doctors warned he could be blind in one of them. Thankfully, his eyes healed with therapy. The event however terrified Eden to the extent she decided to share her story with the world.
The Source of the Infection
Later further research revealed that Baylor’s squirting bath toy was the cause of the infection. Because of water retention, such toys can contain bacteria unstopable. Eden’s post on Facebook about upsetting pictures exposing Baylor’s injuries bared viral status that elicited hundreds of comments from other parents that had experienced similar situations with their own children.
A Parent’s Warning
Eden’s message is straightforward: such bath toys can be very cute and amusing, but not worth the risk. She has now disposed all the squeezable toys of Baylor hoping manufacturers will keep this in mind while manufacturing bath toys. Even those that are seemingly unthreatening as a parent you need to know what dangers lie within everyday objects. Eden wishes to leave other families off the suffering she experienced in telling her story 1.
