What a mother-in-law learned from The Glitter Trap

Richard and I have been married for three years. Our relationship has been strong, but there is one problem that won’t go away. What’s wrong? Monica, my wife’s mum.

She is always looking for ways to be wrong and crossing our lines. Monica has been terrible, whether she’s criticising my food or looking through our bedroom.

The last straw was when she tried to get into our bedroom again while we were having dinner as a family. I came up with a plan to teach her a lesson.

I put glitter on the doorknob because I thought it would keep people away. The glitter burst all over Monica when she tried to come into our room, as she always does.

Her response, which was a mix of shame and anger, was priceless. Even though Richard was yelling at me, his sister Sally rushed to her side.

But I didn’t give in. I told her that Monica’s constant spying had left me with no choice. To protect our privacy, the glitter trap had to be used.

As Monica and Sally stormed out the door, they left a trail of glitter behind them. Later, Richard came up to me and told me he was embarrassed.

I stayed determined, though. “Your mother’s obsession with invading our privacy is unnecessary,” I said to her. “Sometimes drastic measures are needed to make a point.”

The event has kept Monica away, but I wonder if the glitter trap was too much or if it was the right thing to do.
