A recent event on a long-haul trip has made passengers very angry about fairness and proper behaviour. In the beginning of the trouble, a plus-size woman wouldn’t give up her paid-for extra seat to a baby.
Because she was 34 years old and had trouble getting into a single seat in the past, the woman booked two seats. During the trip, though, the mother of an 18-month-old boy asked her to “squeeze into one seat” so her child could use the other one.
The woman didn’t give up. She said the child didn’t need his own seat and could have sat on his mom’s lap instead. People on the train had a range of responses to her choice. Some gave her dirty looks and made passive-aggressive comments.
Some people on social media are criticising the young mother and flight attendant for not being organised and having a sense of entitlement. Some people have said that the plus-size woman made the trip uncomfortable for other people.
There are, however, many people who back the woman and say she should be able to keep both seats since she paid for them. They think that people who have paid for seats shouldn’t have to give them up under any circumstances.
This event brings up important questions about how to make sure that all flight customers are comfortable and treated fairly, especially those who need extra help. What do you think? Should the plus-size woman have given up her extra place for the toddler, or was she right to keep it? Drop your ideas in the box below.
