People who shop at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, or HomeGoods may soon have to deal with a new security feature: workers wearing body cameras. This measure was put in place by TJX Companies, the parent company, to put customer and staff safety first.
A TJX representative stressed that body cameras are only one part of their overall safety plan, which also includes rules, training, and steps. These cams are meant to calm down situations, stop crime, and show that TJX cares about safety in their stores.
Because only trained workers will be able to wear the cameras, they will be used responsibly. Carol Spieckerman, a retail expert, says that TJX needs to take extra security steps because of its unique inventory model, which encourages customers to come in often.
The cameras will record video, but TJX made it clear that the videos will only be given to the police or in answer to a subpoena. This method strikes a balance between customer privacy and safety issues.
