A Rise in Long-Term Back Pain Is the Hidden Cost of COVID-19

A groundbreaking study done in Malta has put light on how the COVID-19 pandemic has had effects that were not expected. Researchers found an alarming rise in people with chronic back pain, which made people worry about the long-term effects of being alone for a long time.

Before the pandemic, 30% of the 388 people who took part said they had severe back pain. But after COVID-19 came out, this number shot through the roof to 49%. Notably, most of the people in the second group had never had back pain before.

Important questions are raised by the study about the link between COVID-19 and back pain. Back pain doesn’t always mean you have COVID-19; it can also be a sign of other health problems, like the flu or asthma.

A fever, sneezing, coughing, or stuffy nose are just a few of the things that experts say can cause back pain. In addition, lung inflammation and infections in people with pneumonia can make the back hurt.

The study results remind us that the pandemic has effects on more than just the virus itself. It has an effect on people’s general health and quality of life. Once we recognise this secret cost, we can start to come up with good ways to lessen the long-term effects of COVID-19.

Even though scientists are still trying to figure out how COVID-19 affected people’s health, one thing is for sure: the pandemic has changed our health in a way that can’t be erased.
