As we go through life, we all have to deal with the fact that we will die and get old. Death may not be scary in and of itself, but the thought of losing your freedom and having to depend on others can be scary.
This is exactly what happened to Maria, who used to teach singing and piano. She spent her last days in a care centre in Austinburg, Ohio. Music was the only thing that made her feel better.
Joshua Woodard, one of Maria’s old students, worked at the care home, which was a lovely turn of events. Joshua knew Maria well because she taught him from the age of nine.
Maria said she really wanted to hear her favourite song, “How Great Thou Art,” one last time as her time was almost up. Joshua was determined to make her dream come true, so he sang a beautiful version while using his phone to help him learn the words.
Maria’s sister-in-law took a picture of the touching moment, and you can feel how beautiful it is. It’s clear that Maria and Joshua have a deep bond, which shows how powerful music and love can be.
Joshua was praised by Marti Adkins Redmond, who told the story: “Hospice workers are angels, but this hospice aide is special.” Joshua’s selfless action shows how caring and dedicated carers are who help our old loved ones all the time.
Maria is no longer with us, but this touching moment will always be with us to remind us of how kindness and connection can change our lives. People should read this touching ode to Joshua and all the other amazing people who bring joy and comfort to those who need it.
