When Meghan was younger, she got along well with her dad. Thomas thought back to how happy he was when he held his daughter for the first time in 1981. Their friendship started to weaken, though, as Meghan’s job and public marriage to Prince Harry picked up speed.
In 2017, Thomas had a heart attack while Meghan and Harry were getting engaged. This was the turning point. He said that the worry was because his oldest daughter was criticizing him in public. Even though Thomas was worried about his health, his choices would make their relationship even worse.
Thomas missed his daughter’s wedding because of the controversy over staged photos that were sold to a picture agency. Instead, Prince Charles walked Meghan down the aisle. Thomas felt bad about what he did and admitted that the pictures looked “stupid and hammy.”
Thomas’s secret work with a paparazzi upset the Royal Family, especially Prince Harry, who had spoken out against paparazzi behavior because it was linked to the death of his mother.

Thomas has never met his grandkids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, because he and his wife are still fighting. Thomas said that neither Meghan Markle nor Prince Harry called him while he was sick in 2022, even though he wanted to get back in touch.
