Imagine floating down a calm river in a kayak, surrounded by lush plants and the soothing sounds of nature. All of a sudden, you come face-to-face with a huge animal. Its huge claws grab the air, and its bear-like head looks like it came straight from a movie about ancient times. This is what Shala Holm and her daughter saw and felt as they kayaked down the Mississippi River. It was both scary and interesting.
Shala and her family were there for the summer. While they were paddling down the river, Shala’s daughter whispered, “Mom, be quiet.” What do I hear breathing?” They were shocked when a huge snapping turtle came out of the water and headed straight for the fish basket that was hanging from their boat.
Shala and her daughter were both shocked by the turtle’s huge size and sharp claws.
Shala and her daughter went back to the same spot the next day to get a better picture of the scary thing. They fished and waited for hours before they finally got a picture of the turtle with its huge head and claws holding a net full of fish. The picture quickly went popular on social media, with many people shocked and amazed by how big the turtle was.
Even though they were scared and shocked at first, Shala and her daughter were thrilled to have met such a strange animal. Shala even wants to go back to the vacation next year to see if she can find her turtle friend again. The owners of the resort hope that the picture that went popular will bring more people to their resort so that they can enjoy the beauty and wonder of the Mississippi River and all the amazing animals that live there.
