In a bizarre incident, a man walked into a Greggs bakery in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, and ordered a bacon sandwich that would put even the most avid bacon lovers to shame. Craig Harker, a 37-year-old competitive eater, requested 100 slices of bacon stuffed into a massive bread roll, which barely fit inside a pizza box. The enormous sandwich contained a staggering 7,600 calories, leaving the Greggs staff in utter disbelief.
Craig, a father and member of the British Eating League, is no stranger to food challenges. He has made a name for himself online as “Dad Loves Food” and constantly pushes his limits with outrageous eating feats. However, this attempt may have been his most ambitious yet.
When Craig placed his order, the employee behind the counter thought he was joking. But once they realized he was serious, the staff went to work assembling the behemoth meal. The sandwich stood nearly nine inches tall and came with full bottles of ketchup and brown sauce to help wash it down. Craig proudly showed off his creation, dubbing it “Bacon Mount Everest.”
Despite his enthusiasm, Craig soon realized that conquering the massive sandwich was no easy feat. He struggled to lift it and eventually took it home to attempt the challenge in a more comfortable setting. With a bottle of Coca-Cola by his side, Craig set out to devour the mountain of bacon.
Initially, he made decent progress, but as the challenge wore on, the sheer volume of bacon began to take its toll. After eating 38 rashers, Craig was forced to throw in the towel, admitting that consuming 100 slices was “impossible.” He speculated that only elite competitive eaters could pull off such a feat.
Rather than letting the remaining bacon go to waste, Craig shared the leftovers with his friends and family. He even compared holding the massive sandwich to “holding a newborn baby.” His kids eagerly gathered around him, waiting for their turn to grab a piece of the leftovers.
Craig, who also owns a pub, acknowledged that even his most experienced eaters would struggle with a sandwich of this magnitude. He had previously made headlines by stuffing 51 rashers of bacon into a single sandwich, but this attempt proved to be too much.
Looking back at the challenge, Craig explained that as part of the British Eating League, he often has to create his own challenges. He admitted that this was by far the biggest bacon sandwich he had ever attempted and that even the world’s top competitive eaters would have difficulty tackling something this extreme.
The colossal creation contained an astonishing 7,792 calories, broken down into 7,600 calories from the 100 slices of bacon, 172 calories from the bread roll, and 20 calories from the ketchup. After the experience, Craig made one thing clear: “I never want to look at a piece of bacon again.” While his love for food challenges remains strong, this might be one bacon sandwich he won’t be attempting again anytime soon.
