When my husband Jose and I moved into our new home, we were excited to start our new life. However, our enthusiasm was short-lived, as we soon discovered that our neighbor, Bob, had a peculiar habit of pruning our hedge at midnight.
The first time it happened, we were shocked and outraged. Half of our beautiful hedge was hacked to pieces, leaving us feeling vulnerable and invaded. We decided to take matters into our own hands and catch Bob in the act.
That night, we stayed up late, waiting for Bob to make his move. Sure enough, around midnight, we heard the sound of pruning shears and rushed outside to confront him. Bob’s nonchalant attitude and smug grin only added fuel to our anger.
The next day, we called the landscaping company, and fortunately, our warranty covered the damage. However, we knew we needed a more permanent solution to prevent Bob from destroying our property again.
Jose came up with a plan to set up a camera to catch Bob in the act. The next night, we caught him red-handed, and I called the police. The officers arrived quickly and informed Bob that he couldn’t destroy our property, regardless of where he thought the property line was.
The police suggested we get a professional surveyor to mark the property line. To everyone’s surprise, the surveyor discovered that Bob’s fence was 11 feet over our property line. Bob was forced to take down his fence and move it back.
As Bob began to dismantle his fence, he accidentally hit his sprinkler system, flooding his basement. It was a sweet taste of karma, and we couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
Bob faced hefty fines for property damage and improper fence placement, along with the cost of repairing his basement. The total cost was nearly $10,000. The incident also led to his removal from the Homeowners Association (HOA), and he was replaced by a more reasonable neighbor.
In the end, we finally had the privacy we longed for. We restored our hedge, added flowerbeds, and even started planning a small vegetable garden. Bob, on the other hand, kept a low profile, his embarrassment and the consequences of his actions serving as a lesson to him.
This experience taught us that sometimes, the best revenge is simply letting karma take its course. As we enjoyed our peaceful, private garden, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the unexpected twists that led to our newfound tranquility.
