Matthew McConaughey, the Oscar-winning actor and outspoken advocate for responsible gun ownership, recently appeared on The View, where he found himself at odds with co-host Joy Behar over gun control.
The conversation began innocently enough, with McConaughey discussing his children’s book “Just Because” and even giving Behar a foot massage. However, things took a turn when Sunny Hostin praised McConaughey for his stance against gun violence, prompting Behar to ask if he thought he could be elected in Texas with his anti-gun views.

McConaughey’s response was swift and pointed. “One thing about me and politics,” he said, “is me playing a game. I’m not interested in playing.” He shook his finger at Behar, emphasizing his disinterest in engaging in a game of politics.
Behar seemed taken aback by McConaughey’s response, saying “Ok, don’t do it.” However, Hostin attempted to smooth things over, noting that McConaughey’s advocacy was focused on responsible gun ownership and legislation, rather than being anti-gun.
McConaughey’s passion for responsible gun ownership is deeply personal. In 2022, he joined a briefing at the White House, calling for stricter gun laws in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting, which occurred in his hometown. He has since launched the Greenlights Grant Initiative with his wife, Camila Alves, to promote safer school environments.
While McConaughey’s views on gun control may not align with those of every Texan, his commitment to responsible gun ownership is unwavering. As he made clear to Behar, he is not interested in playing politics, but rather in finding practical solutions to the complex issue of gun violence.
