A picturesque hiking trail in Oahu, Hawaii, turned into a scene of horror on March 24 when Dr. Gerhardt Konig allegedly attempted to push his wife, Arielle, off a cliff. The brutal attack has left the community stunned and raised questions about the darker side of human nature.
According to authorities, the 46-year-old doctor struck his wife in the head with a rock and tried to harm her with two syringes. The incident occurred after Arielle refused to take a picture with her husband. Witnesses who saw the assault called 911, prompting a six-hour manhunt that ended with Konig’s capture.
Arielle suffered severe injuries to her face and head and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Konig has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, and his bail has been set at $5 million.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with Konig’s attorney, Myles Breiner, describing it as a “mystery.” Konig’s employer, Maui Health, has suspended him from his role at Maui Memorial Medical Center pending an investigation.
