Phil Collins has been making music for more than fifty years. He is best known as the lead singer and drummer of the band Genesis.
Collins was born in London, England, and fell in love with music early on. Collins’s uncle gave him a homemade drum kit when he was only five years old. By the time he was a teenager, he was already putting on shows at his parents’ fishing club.

Collins got his big break when he became the drummer for Genesis in the 1970s. The group’s unique sound and Collins’s unique way of playing the drums made them very famous very quickly. With Collins on drums, they put out five great records.
After Genesis’ founder and lead singer left the band, Collins took over as lead singer, even though he was hesitant at first. Collins made Genesis even bigger with his strong voice and charming stage personality.
But Collins has had a lot of health problems in the last few years. After surgery in 2009, he had a dislocated spine, nerve damage, and a broken foot that made it very hard for him to walk. Collins has been having health problems that have made it hard for him to perform, so he has had to rethink his plans to stay in music.
Collins recently talked about how he “barely holds a drumstick anymore” because of his health problems. Because of this, Collins’ son Nicholas will play drums on Genesis’ future tour, leaving Collins to focus on singing.

Even though Collins is glad to still be making music, he knows that his health problems have made travelling harder. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to keep travelling because he was getting old and the physical responsibilities of performance.
Fans will be looking forward to seeing Collins perform with his son while they wait for the next Genesis tour. Collins is still a famous person in music, even though he had health problems, and his influence continues to inspire artists and music fans today.
