On the Verge of Being Homeless: A Family’s Desperate Fight

A Rotherham family of five has been given an eviction warning because they haven’t paid their rent, and they could end up without a place to live. Amy Winter and Joshua Thain are having a hard time making ends meet, and the fact that they are about to be kicked out of their home is making them even more stressed and anxious.

Even though they tried hard, the family is now behind on their rent payments. Amy and Joshua, who both depend on Universal Credit, feel like Barnsley Council has abandoned them. Their complaint is that the council knows about their situation but hasn’t helped them as much as they need.

Amy needs an answer right away because she is going to have a baby soon. Things are getting worse for the family, and they are running out of choices. “We’re constantly worried about what’s going to happen to us,” Amy said. “We’ve asked our family for help, but they’re unable to take us in.”

Joshua’s uncle, who lives in Somerset, is the only person who has offered to help, but this won’t work in the long run. The situation for the family is made even more difficult by the fact that the house is owned by Sanctuary Housing and the lease was signed by Joshua’s late mother, Victoria Robertshaw.

Amy is upset that Barnsley Council isn’t doing more to help the family; she thinks that they should be the ones to do it. “They need to figure out what they’re going to do to help us, instead of just giving us mixed messages,” she stated. Even though things are getting worse for the family, all they can do is hope that someone will step up and help them.
