A Grandmother’s Last Photo: A Bittersweet Memory

Life may change in an instant. A happy day with her kids turned into a nightmare for Samantha Jensen, a young mother from Oldtown, Idaho. Her three-year-old daughter, Scarlett, lost her life in a heartbreaking hit-and-run accident while strolling with her grandma and two-year-old brother, Henry.

Scarlett and Henry’s grandma had just snapped a picture of them before the accident, not knowing it would be the last picture of Scarlett’s life. The photo portrays the innocence and enjoyment of the two siblings, walking hand in hand down a path. Jensen discovered the photo weeks later, and it’s become a sad reminder of her daughter’s final moments of life.

A speeding Chevy Tahoe crashed into Scarlett, Henry, and their grandma on their private driveway. Even though the grandma tried everything she could to stop the driver and safeguard the kids, Scarlett died nearly right away. Henry and the grandma both had serious injuries, such as a broken back, broken ribs, and many broken bones.

Samantha Jensen wrote about her sadness on social media and thanked the person who took the picture of Scarlett’s beautiful last moments. In the midst of unbearable anguish, the Jensen family finds solace in the memories of Scarlett’s life. They think of her as a sweet, fun-loving kid who adored horses, unicorns, and singing along to her favorite movies. As they deal with their sadness, they tell others to remember their loved ones and share their experiences. They think that talking about Scarlett will help keep her memory alive.
