Alice was shocked to find out that her beloved grandfather had left most of his money to her two brothers, Jake and Ashton, after he died. The only thing she got from her family was an old barn on the farm.
Alice had always been close to her grandpa and spent many summers on the farm with him. His death left a huge hole in her life, and reading his will made it hurt even more.
The lawyers reading the will made Alice’s brothers so excited they couldn’t hold it in. They laughed out loud when they found out that Alice had been left in the old barn.
“A whole barn,” Jake laughed. “So much for all those summers at grandpa’s.”
They said mean things that hurt Alice deeply, but she tried not to let them happen. She knew that the memories and love of her grandfather were more valuable than anything else.
Alice felt very nostalgic when she went to the barn for the first time in years. She thought back to the many hours she spent with her grandfather playing hide-and-seek.
But she didn’t find the surprise until she went up to the hayloft, just like she did when she was a kid. She saw a black bag fall from her grandfather’s favourite hiding place. Inside were lots of cash and a touching note.
“To my dear, sweet Alice… I left you this barn so you could rebuild my failed business,” the note said. I have saved a lot of money over the years to help you fix up the farm and business.
Alice shed happy tears when she realised that her grandfather had given her the best gift of all: the chance to fix up the farm and start over.
Alice worked hard and was determined to turn the farm into a successful business. After wasting their fortune, her brothers were left to feel bad about what they did.
They came to Alice for help, and she received them with open arms, showing them the same care and kindness that their grandfather had shown her.
We can learn a lot from Alice’s story. Greed will always lead to sorrow, and our situations don’t make us who we are. We can get through the hardest problems and build a better future if we are strong and kind.
