The town of Niagara Falls, New York, is still reeling from the terrible events that happened at Luna Island, where Chianti Means and her two young children, Roman Rossman and Mecca Means, died.
The New York State Police said they would be looking into the deaths on October 29, 2024. Near Goat Island, police were called to a report of a fight between Chianti, 33, and her two children, Roman, 9, and Mecca, 5.
Chianti is said to have thrown her kids over the safety rail and then jumped after them, according to investigators. The State Police said that the event was planned, and they are still looking into what happened.
Authorities from many areas tried to find and save the three people, but they were not found. Bierra Hamilton, Chianti’s cousin, said that the mother had been having problems with postpartum depression.
Bierra made it clear that Chianti’s death was not due to a breakup or problems in her relationships, but to her sadness. “Postpartum depression is very real and needs a cure,” she said.
Chianti’s social media posts, such as a request for help, gave hints that she was having mental health problems. Many people who knew her thought of her as a loving mother and family member who was full of life and wisdom.
The father of Roman, John Wayne Rossman, has set up a GoFundMe page to pay for the funeral and build a monument on Luna Island. Roman would have been ten years old on January 30, 2025. The plan is to raise $20,000 for funeral costs, headstones, and a memorial service.
John thanked everyone for their thoughts and kind words during this tough time. The tragedy is a powerful warning of how important it is to deal with mental health problems.
