A common argument comes up again as the holiday season approaches: when is it too early to enjoy Christmas? Some stores choose a more neutral “Happy Holidays” greeting, while others are happy to show they are in the true spirit of Christmas.
The American Family Association (AFA) says that some stores have made an effort to keep the Christmas practice alive, even though it might cause some problems. These stores should be praised for their efforts to spread Christmas cheer.
Hobby Lobby is the best example. It plays Christian music in its shops and closes on Sundays to honour the Sabbath. As more people share their Christmas joy without using clichés, Belk does too. Because Nordstrom cares about its workers, it doesn’t decorate until after Thanksgiving. This way, everyone can enjoy the holiday.
Some stores, like Home Depot and Wal-Mart, use the word “Christmas” in their ads without thinking twice. Macy’s “Believe” promotion and famous parade show how excited the company is about the holiday. Even though JCPenney has had problems in the past, it still sees Christmas as an important part of its business.
Fans are thrilled that Bass Pro Shops is working with Duck Dynasty to promote Christmas. Lowe’s website is so full of Christmas cheer that there is no room for “Grinches.” Toys ‘R Us puts “Christmas” right at the top of its well-known catalogue, which is a surprise.
These stores are holiday stars because they keep the Christmas spirit and joy alive. We show how important this special time of year is by giving them our support.
As we shop this holiday season, let’s remember to thank the stores that are bravely keeping Christmas rituals alive. We can all work together to keep the real spirit of Christmas alive and well.
