A Heartbreaking Tribute to a Teenager’s Courageous Battle with Cancer

Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare. For the parents of Laura Hillier, this devastating reality became all too real. Laura, a bright and talented teenager, was diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of 13. Despite her bravery and determination, she succumbed to the disease four years later, leaving behind a community that loved and admired her.

Laura’s story is one of inspiration and courage. After being declared cancer-free, her disease returned with a vengeance, and she was forced to undergo further treatment. Despite the challenges she faced, Laura remained strong and optimistic, touching the lives of everyone around her.

When Laura passed away on January 20, 2016, her classmates and teachers at Nelson High School in Ontario, Canada, wanted to pay a special tribute to her memory. They decided to modify her casket, covering it with heartfelt messages and notes, just like those found in high school yearbooks.

The result was a beautiful and poignant farewell to a beloved friend and student. Laura’s casket was adorned with purple, her favorite color, and the church was filled with purple flowers and clothing. The handwritten messages on her casket were a testament to the impact Laura had on her community, with phrases like “You were musical, artistic, and understanding” and “You will always be a hero.”

Laura’s family was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from their community. Her courage and strength in the face of adversity had inspired countless people, and her memory continues to live on in their hearts.

Rest in peace, Laura. Your bravery and spirit will never be forgotten.
