A sweet Facebook post from the “Dreamcatchers for Abused Children” group showed a sad side of the life of an Oklahoma boy who has been through unbearable pain. The boy’s original parents were both alcoholics and abused and neglected him for years. They kept him from having a happy, loving childhood.
Neighbours called the police, who came and saved the boy and put him in the care of “Dreamcatchers for Abused Children.” Working hard to help children who have been abused find adoptive families who can give them a safe and caring home, the organisation really does care about these kids.
While the boy waited for his forever family, he wrote a letter from the heart about what he wanted for his new home. The things on his wish list are a stark memory of the bad things that happened to him in a past life. The simplicity of his requests is both poignant and thought-provoking.
“I want food and water,” he writes. “Don’t hit me. I want a house with lights and running water. “I need love.” He then lists simple things like having clean clothes, a clean home, and a warm bed. He also says that he wants a family that doesn’t fight, drink, or do drugs.
When we think about our own lives, we should remember to value the little things and never take our good fortune for granted.
